What is the Open Program - All Styles?DTI's Open Program - All styles is open all students, ladies and gentlemen. This program offers students from age 5 many dance style options with level progression. Students may enjoy our Open program - All styles classes without enrolling in our Ballet School. All students may also take multiple classes by choosing the Unlimited class option. Parents are welcome to discuss their student's progress and observe class during our scheduled Observation and Private Parent / Teacher Conference Week. Students perform in theatre in our annual Open Program Student Showcase Finale in June 2011. Please save the dates listed on our Calendar page.
How do I register?
New students from age five with no training register online into beginning levels.
New students with prior training complete the Contact Us page to schedule a level placement.
Alumni students' access their level placement results through a secure members only log in online and register online.
BALLET
Classical ballet is best known for pointe work for advanced dancers, turn-out of the legs, high extensions, and its effortless qualities. It is a graceful and invaluable foundation for all dance forms building the necessary technique which promotes freedom of movement, artistic expression and strength.Ladies' attire: pink ballet shoes; blue leotard; tights

CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary is a form of dance influenced by both classical ballet and modern dance. It takes its technique and use of pointework from classical ballet, although it permits a greater range of movement that may not adhere to the strict body lines set forth by schools of ballet technique. Many of its concepts come from the ideas and innovations of 20th century modern dance, including floorwork and turn-in of the legs.Ladies' attire: Any color leotard; black jazz pants; ballet shoes

JAZZ
Modern jazz dance is influenced by other dance styles such as ballet, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop. Jazz dancers benefit from a sound working knowledge of ballet technique. The curriculum includes ballet.

LYRICAL DANCE
Lyrical dance is a dance style that combines elements of ballet, modern, Jazz, and Tap dance techniques. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals or just instrumental bars. The name lyrical comes from the word "lyrics" because dancers use the lyrics of a song or instrumental music to inspire them to do certain movements or show expression. Besides emotional connection to music, lyrical dance typically encourages use of articulation, line, weight, and movement qualities. Due to its demand for intermediate to advanced technical skill and emotional focus, it is popular primarily with emotional dancers.Ladies' attire: Any color leotard; black jazz pants; bare feet

HIP HOP
Hip-hop dance refers to a social or choreographed dance style primarily danced to hip hop music. This includes basic breaking, locking, and popping. It is often freestyle (improvisational) in nature.
Ladies' and gentlemen's attire: plain t- shirt; active pants; black soled sneakers worn on the dance floor only.

TAP
Tap dance is characterized by a tapping sound that is created from metal plates that are attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer's shoe which create a percussive sound when tapped against a hard surface.

Gentlemen's attire: black tap shoes; plain t-shirt; jazz pants
