Kelly Black

Kelly is a dancer/singer/actor/choreographer/instructor who has recently returned to San Jose from San Juan, Puerto Rico, after spending 2011 as lead singer/dancer aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines ship "The Serenade of the Seas," heading a cast of 12 in six different shows. Kelly has taught jazz, hip hop, tap, voice, and musical theatre dance for ten years at studios throughout the Bay Area and has worked as choreographer, vocal director, and assistant director for local high schools and Children's Musical Theatre San Jose. She has been performing in both amateur and professional musical theater since 2001 and was the recipient of the 2005 Best Actress Award from American Musical Theatre San Jose in their Musical Theatre Honors Program. Kelly has been a member of Teen Dance Company of the Bay Area (TDC), Phaxion Hip Hop Company, and Impulse Dance Company. Kelly has won numerous state and national titles in jazz, hip hop, tap, voice, and contemporary dance over the course of her career, and is a versatile singer with a 4-octave range. One of Kelly's favorite dance roles was as Mr. Mistoffelees in the CMTSJ production of Cats, directed by Jacob Brent, who played the same role on Broadway, in London, and in the video. She holds a BA in Dance with an emphasis in Musical Theatre from San Jose State University.
