Kara Davis
Kara Davis, has danced for Ballet Met, Atlanta Ballet, Ohio Ballet, the San Francisco Opera Ballet, and Ballet Jorgen in Toronto, Ontario. For the past twelve years she has lived in San Francisco and has danced for Margaret Jenkins Dance Company, Pearl Ubungen Dancers & Musicians, Mary Carbonara, Robert Moses, and Kathleen Hermesdorf. She is a founding member of KUNST-STOFF and Janice Garrett & Dancers. She won an "Izzie" in 2003 for "Outstanding Achievement in Individual Performance" for "her season" as a Bay Area free-lance artist and was Bay Area dance critic Rachel Howard's pick for 2005's MVP. With friend and colleague Bliss Kohlmyer Dowman she co-founded project-agora in 2005 - a curatorial organization that produces evenings of interdisciplinary performances - and has since received two Isadora Duncan nominations for her work. She is currently a artist in residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts and mentee of Alex Ketley through the CHIME residency established by Margaret Jenkins. Her work has been shown at ODC Theater, the Headlands Center for the Arts, the Cowell Theater, the banks of the Eel River (Camp KUNST-STOFF), and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. For the past 8 years she has studied the improvisation techniques codified by William Forsythe from former Frankfurt Ballet dancer Amy Raymond through producing open improvisation workshops in San Francisco. Currently earning her BA from St. Mary's College, she conducted her senior research in Tel Aviv for 7 weeks in spring of 2008 to study Gaga, the movement language developed by Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin. She has taught at San Francisco Ballet School, LINES Ballet Training Program and BFA program, Berkeley Ballet School, Atlanta Ballet School, ODC School, Mills College, and the Guongdong Academy of Dance in Guongzhou, China.
